From its blood-stained ceilings to the best matcha souvenirs, Kyoto is one of my most favorite places in Japan. I am always one step away from stumbling upon beautifully preserved artworks from centuries ago or the exact location a famous samurai took his last breath. The city is a breathing time capsule into the past, reminding us of a time there no longer is, yet so interconnected with the present.
